Melia is the assistant built into your household. She knows your fridge, your calendar, your recipe book, the birthdays coming up and what's on the shopping list. Here are the habits that really save time once you've picked them up.
Key points
- Open Melia from the Melia logo at the top of the screen, or with Option+M (Alt+M on Windows) on the keyboard.
- Ask your questions in everyday language, as you would ask someone close to you. No keywords needed.
- With the free plan, Melia answers and keeps you informed. With Premium, she acts: she adds, edits and organises for you.
What Melia does depending on your plan
With the free plan, Melia looks through the household and answers you: what's left in the fridge, what's planned this week, the birthday that's coming up. With Premium, she takes action: adding to the shopping list, adapting a recipe, planning the meal plan. By default, she suggests and you approve, and you decide how much freedom she has.
The tips below mix both. The ones that need Premium are flagged.
Open her in one move
The Melia logo sits at the top of the screen, notably in Fridge, Shopping and Meal plan. One tap is enough to start the conversation.
On the keyboard, on a computer or in the browser, Option+M (Alt+M on Windows) opens Melia on a new conversation, wherever you are. Option+V (Alt+V) opens her straight into voice, with Premium.
From an open recipe
On your phone, go through the recipe menu: “Edit with Melia” opens Melia on that exact recipe. If you ask “can you double it?”, she knows what you're talking about, no need to type out its name. This option needs Premium.
Use the fridge as a starting point
For those Sunday evening “I've got nothing to make for dinner” moments, open Melia from Fridge. A simple request like “give me 2 ideas with what's left” is enough to get suggestions that match what you actually have to hand.
If you want to leave out what's about to go off, just say so: “2 ideas without the eggs that expire tomorrow”. She adjusts.
Adapt a recipe to your guests or diet
You're having 6 people over instead of 4. You want the gluten-free version. You want it lighter. Instead of hunting for another recipe, open the one you have and ask Melia to adapt it. She recalculates the quantities, adjusts the steps that mention weights or volumes and suggests substitutions that make sense. You approve the result before it's saved.
To change only the number of people, the recipe menu also offers “Change servings”, then “Recalculate quantities”: Melia recalculates the quantities for you. Both uses need Premium.
Send the ingredients to the shopping list
From a recipe, “Add to shopping list” sends the ingredients to the household list. Anything already on it is merged, with no duplicates. You can also ask Melia directly: “add what's missing to the shopping list”. This action needs Premium.
Take your stock into account
In the Meal plan module, reserved for Premium, “Generate my list with Melia” prepares the week's shopping from the planned meals. Turn on “Account for what I have in stock” so she leaves out what's already in the fridge.
Pick up yesterday's conversation
Melia keeps the history of your conversations. You can close the app, come back the next day, open the same conversation and carry on where you left off. No need to repeat everything at the start of your message.
To find a conversation or start a new one, tap the Melia logo in the conversation panel: the list of your conversations appears, with “New conversation”. Starting from scratch is useful when you switch to a completely different subject.
Choose how Melia opens
In your profile, the Melia section offers 2 ways to open her. Chat mode opens a written conversation. Assistant mode, in early access and reserved for Premium, starts by voice: Melia listens, opens screens and acts while you talk.
When the answer isn't the right one
3 useful reflexes
Add a constraint rather than starting over. If the suggested recipe doesn't suit you, say “quicker” or “no cooking”. Melia adjusts without starting from scratch.
Say who it's for. “For a 4-year-old” or “for 2 adults in the evening” makes a big difference to how relevant the answer is.
Ask for another option. “Give me another idea” is quicker than rephrasing your original question.
The modules involved
This guide makes the most sense when you open the modules below in the app.
